“Shadow and Bone” welcomed into the Fold by Netflix, and it wants to see more. Season 2 of the series based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse books has officially been ordered on Netflix. On Monday, at Netflix’s first Geeked Week event, the news was announced. “I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo,” said showrunner Eric Heisserer.
For season 2, set to reprise their roles are Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Amita Suman (Inej), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar). The additional cast has not been disclosed yet.
“I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going,” Bardugo said in a statement. There are so many places that they have not got a chance to visit, and he cannot wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, thieves, privateers, soldiers, thugs, and princes, who make this world so much fun to explore. It is going to be real magic to see the cast expand.
On April 23, season 1, released on Netflix shown the events of Shadow and Bone, the first book in Bardugo’s main trilogy, but also had characters and elements from the spin-off novel Six of Crows. This gives some idea of what we can expect from season 2.
At different moments these two books occurred in the Grishaverse timeline. The series 1st eight episodes smashed both the stories together to give a different kind of spin to the saga of Alina Starkov. In the king of Ravka’s First Army, a low-ranking mapmaker Alina is revealed to be a Grisha, one of the world’s magic users. She is a foretold saint, the Sun Summoner, and with the power to summon sunlight.
Characters from Six of Crows like Kaz Brekker and his Crows gang on the other side of the Fold hear about the Sun Summoner and are promised a hefty bounty if they kidnap her. Season 1 ending sets up a season 2 to tackle the events of Siege and Storm, the 2nd Novel in the Shadow and Bone main trilogy, and the main events of Six of Crows.
